Resource Selection

There is currently inadequate data to conclusively determine Somali giraffes’ needs and how they respond to changes in land use. Using data collected from 30 collared adult giraffes, we will document how far they move and where they frequent and be able to understand their social interactions, habitat use, resource selection and identify key threats to their survival.

Finally, this effort will allow us to document how emerging giraffe diseases interact with other threats i.e., climate change, civil unrest, habitat loss and poaching. We are in the process of collaring the first 15 giraffes, and the rest in the next 18 next months.
