Geri Tracking
Geri is the Somali word for the reticulated giraffe.
We are currently considering collaring 30 adult giraffes across the three counties and track their movement through these vast human-dominated landscapes. The project named “Geri” (giraffe in local Somali dialect) will perhaps be the single largest giraffe collaring exercise in Africa.
Together with the demographic data, this project will lead us to an understanding of how the endangered reticulated giraffes move and use their habitat thus facilitate effective conservation.
