Geri Social Enterprise
The Geri Social Enterprise is a livelihood program designed to curb farmers–giraffe conflict while strengthening household incomes. In high-conflict areas along River Tana where giraffes frequently raid mango farms, SGP is supporting 200 farmers to transition to lime production, a crop that giraffes do not feed on and offers higher and more stable market value.
Through this program, SGP distributes lime seedlings to participating farmers and provides basic agronomic education to support successful establishment. To ensure the enterprise delivers real economic benefits, we also link farmers directly with buyers and processing companies in Nairobi, allowing them to sell their produce without relying on middlemen who often dampen farm-gate prices.
By phasing out mangoes that giraffes raid with a profitable alternative, the Geri Social Enterprise helps farmers earn a reliable income while reducing crop raids and retaliatory risks to giraffes.
